Psychologists say that learning how to improve self esteem is more an individual mission than anything else, and that it may require many hours of solitary introspection. Slow down, meditate, spend time journaling or talk a walk in nature. One of the ways to improve self esteem is to simply wake up earlier, giving yourself enough time to do things that you like, ponder the tasks ahead of you and enjoy a hot shower, a hot cup of coffee or a healthy breakfast. Before you get out of bed, reflect on the things that make you happy. What are you excited about? What are you proud of? What are you grateful for? Who loves you? What are you looking forward to? These little questions can get you in the right mindset to start your day productively.

Sometimes learning how to improve self esteem involves also learning to let go. Often we are our own worst critics and we beat ourselves up over things we cannot control or things that can be easily corrected with a little bit of attention and due diligence. A good prayer to remind yourself goes like this: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” You can boost self-esteem by writing a journal to let go of things that bother you. Often by writing, you will come to a conclusion about the causes and the solutions for your problems. If you view writing as too much of a chore, then you might want to take weekly walks with friends to get some baggage off your chest. Often friends can offer constructive solutions to your problems and affirm that some things are not your fault.

Exercise is a proven method on how to improve self esteem. Running, biking, horseback riding, swimming and performing outdoor activities boosts the feel good chemicals in your brain like seratonin and adrenaline, which will make you feel better. In addition to feeling more energized, you will also look better, develop more toned muscles and feel more balanced. If you tend to be anxious, you may feel happier learning yoga or meditation techniques that emphasize high esteem and tapping into an inner peace.
