Barry used to boast to his friends how he could remain employed at a 40 hour per week job and get smashed just about every night. Regrettably, after engaging in this “party” lifestyle for about two-and-a-half years, he started to display numerous alcohol related issues.
Barry Begins to Experience Various Alcohol Related Issues
For instance, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so little energy when he got up. Moreover, just about every morning Barry had a nasty hangover. In a word, the combination of his lack of energy and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel energized to go to work. To make things worse, around a week ago he received his second driving under the influence citation in the past two years.
To complicate things further, at his place of employment his last two work assessments were less than suitable. And finally, his six-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had declined due to his angry outbursts, lack of patience, financial difficulties, and his depression.
Though Barry was only twenty-three years old, he frankly began to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what irresponsible and excessive drinking can do to a person. And from a realistic perspective he grasped the fact that he was experiencing the adverse consequences of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction and that he was too young to throw away his life to abusive and hazardous drinking. So initially he tried to drink in moderation. Regrettably, he soon comprehended the fact that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. Stated more precisely, after his first drink he invariably proceeded to get intoxicated. Due to the fact that this was an event that was repeated every time he went to a bar to drink, this disturbed him greatly. In fact, he started to wonder if he was displaying some of the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.
Barry Makes up His Mind To Schedule an Appointment to See His Physician
After talking about his excessive alcohol consumption and his careless and irresponsible drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually made up his mind to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Barry saw his healthcare practitioner, he sincerely mentioned that he has been drinking in an excessive manner, that he may be manifesting alcoholic signs, and that he wants to stop drinking. He then said that drinking responsibly and in moderation doesn’t work well for him and, as a result, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.
Barry also told his healthcare practitioner about his depression and how this mental health problem was negatively influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His doctor referred Barry to Doctor Clark, an alcohol and drug addiction specialist, who persuaded Barry to enter into an alcohol and drug rehab clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Barry would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.
Abstaining From Drinking Was the Best Decision Barry Had Ever Made
After five months of intensive rehab, Barry left the residential rehab facility and continued his recovery via outpatient therapy and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Motivated to change his life in a healthier manner, Barry went to a health store and bought some vitamins and a cookbook. He then joined a fitness center and began working out three or four times per week. Within five months Barry was a new man. He wasn’t depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he now looked younger than he was, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also didn’t resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more loving individual in his relationship with his lady friend. In brief, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Barry had ever made.
