A Teenager Makes An Appointment To See His Family Physician About His Drinking Problems And His Depression And Enhances His Self Worth And Self Esteem

Denny is a seventeen-year-old teenager who has eventually made up his mind that he needs to go and see his family healthcare practitioner about his unhealthy and excessive drinking. At first, Denny thought he would be able to simply go online, look for some straightforward alcohol info and come to a decision whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.

Not surprisingly, he discovered a number of websites that cataloged some of the well-known alcoholism symptoms. That’s the positive news. The less positive news, sadly, was that Denny showed signs of quite a few of these alcoholism symptoms.

Examples of Alcoholism Symptoms

As a case in point, Denny has been drinking substantially more than normal and he has begun to have more impassioned squabbles with his girlfriend. What is more, for the first time in his young life he has been encountering sleeping issues. In a similar way, Denny regularly has felt depressed and on an increasing basis he has been exhibiting less than normal concentration while at school. Additionally, he has felt stressed out and more edgy on a day-to-day basis and for the past two or three months he has shown signs of unclear thinking at school. Because Denny has been demonstrating all of these symptoms, he was excusably apprehensive about his abusive and unhealthy drinking.

So Denny finally determined that he needed to contact his family doctor and schedule an appointment. In point of fact, this was hard for Denny because his healthcare practitioner was also his parents’ healthcare practitioner. The origin of his uneasiness was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and divulge his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior to his family healthcare practitioner.

When Denny arrived at the doctor’s office, he openly notified the doctor about the trepidation he feels about his excessive drinking behavior. When the family physician asked what was stimulating this concern, Denny acknowledged that he had gone on the world wide web and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcoholism symptoms. He then articulated all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he undeniably thought he has.

A Thorough Physical Exam and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab

The family physician notified Denny that it was wise of him to tackle his problem drinking, he gave Denny a thorough physical exam, and suggested that he talk to his Mother and Father about registering in an out-patient alcohol treatment center that was run by Doctor Nardi, one of his doctor associates who is an alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse specialist.

In much the same way, when Denny said that he has been feeling depressed to a greater degree, the family doctor informed Denny that alcoholism and depression routinely happen in the same person. Hence, the family doctor also recommended that Denny talk to his Mom and Dad about obtaining counseling in order to tackle his sense of gloom. In fact, Denny can go to the local mental health clinic and make an appointment with Doctor Kennard, a well known psychologist who specializes in treating adolescents.

The Importance of Coming To Grips With Your Drinking Issues and Getting Motivated About Making Positive and Healthy Changes in Your Life

The healthcare professional made it a point to tell Denny that he might not necessarily be an alcoholic, but that he was clearly drinking in an abusive manner. Stated another way, Denny was engaging in teen alcohol abuse. The family doctor then informed Denny that the reason he suggested alcohol rehabilitation in the first place was because he wanted him to confront his drinking problems, make sure that he stopped them from intensifying, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to fully abstain from drinking.

In a word, by successfully treating his problem drinking, Denny would be able to get his drinking issues under control and refrain from the negative series of events that could potentially result in alcohol addiction.

Denny undeniably did not look forward to facing his parents about his depression and his hazardous drinking. And he surely did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol treatment center. And last of all, he was not elated about going to a psychologist about his sense of despair. Despite these apprehensions, nevertheless, Denny in reality felt some psychological relief for the first time in quite a few months because he finally gave up making excuses for himself and at long last decided to do something productive about his hazardous drinking. And it was clear that this decision helped to augment his self esteem and self worth.
