Earrings Too Expensive For The Young Crowd

All three girls wished they could wear a dress like the ones the sexy movie actresses wore. The gowns they tried on this afternoon were all too revealing. Their parents would not buy them a dress that looked like something out of a playboy magazine.

Now they were looking at jewelry. Spread out before them, protected under glass, were dozens of pairs of swarovski earrings in a rainbow of sparkling colors. They were in all colors from the palest green to emerald and from powder blue to topaz. Each girl visualized them sparkling on her ears on prom night.

She said she saw a girl wearing a pair almost like that at a formal dinner she attended. Both of her friends liked them too. The ones that had white pave stones would match anything and were just as pretty.

It would be better if they sold three earrings n each set, they guessed. Then if you lose one, you still have a pair to wear. They all knew they had lost more than a few earrings already in their lives.

They concluded that they should all buy the same pair of earrings. Then they’d have six of the same earring. They guessed they would be able to retain at least one pair out of them over time.

They crossed the aisle to the next jewelry case. They admired the necklaces and a group of rhodium earrings there. Traci longingly looked back at the swarovsky earrings she so wished for. None of the girls could afford a hundred dollars for earrings.

Their dresses might cost enough to break the budget as it was. Baby sitting money would cover shoes and accessories but not a hundred dollar pair of earrings.

After admiring all the earrings in the store, they agreed that someday they would all have jewels. They strolled out to the food court. Sitting down with cold sodas they gave their attention over to a discussion about how to get rid of acne.

They decided to stop worrying about pimples and bought a plate of nachos to share. Traci had a date with a football player for the prom. The other girls had been asked but had not decided yet who to go with. If they didn’t get an invite from a boy they liked, they would go with each other.

Lots of girls did that. It was like a new trend. They could reject tradition. Just like the kids who dressed Emo or Goth. It was a way to rebel against societal rules and regulations. Teens have been doing that since time immemorial.
