Copyright © 2012 avalon09. Visit the original article at http://raiseselfesteem.com/blog/445/the-impact-of-hazardous-and-excessive-drinking-on-relationships-and-the-inspiration-needed-to-get-treatment-and-discover-more-happiness-and-self-esteem/.

One of the alcohol abuse facts that somehow, someway escapes several individual’s perception is that irresponsible and excessive drinking repeatedly adversely affects relationships. Stated more explicitly, to a fairly great degree, irresponsible and abusive drinking is to relationships what substance abuse is to a person’s health or what dysfunctional brakes are to the safety of the driver of a vehicle. In all of these instances, the outcome is often a terrible misfortune.

When the link between irresponsible and excessive drinking and relationships is observed a little more attentively, nevertheless, you can find some sound reasons why abusive and hazardous drinking and relationships don’t go together in a very beneficial or healthy manner.

Hazardous Drinking Reduces a Person’s Inhibitions

First, irresponsible and excessive drinking reduces an individual’s inhibitions. This frequently means that an individual who has been drinking has less control over what he or she says and does. The outcome is that people in a relationship who have been drinking are much more likely to engage in unkind and mean interchanges and/or violent physical behavior that may not have taken place if neither individual was drinking.

Hazardous and Abusive Drinking Negatively Affects a Person’s Reasoning, Decision-Making, and Problem Solving Abilities

Second, excessive and unhealthy drinking negatively affects an individual’s problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills and abilities. Indeed, if an individual resorts to incoherent decision-making, reasoning, and problem solving skills, this usually adversely influences the choices an individual makes as well as her or his behavior. Such a condition, it is asserted, is a disaster waiting to happen when relationships are concerned because of the sheer number of decisions and problems that need to be addressed on a continual basis.

Hazardous and Abusive Drinking Frequently Influences the Drinker’s Finances in a Harmful Way

Third, careless drinking generally influences the drinker’s finances in an extremely harmful manner. In any case, whether a person buys his or her alcohol at a bar and grill, restaurant, liquor store, sports event, or drinks at home, excessive and hazardous drinking isn’t cheap. And if cash is spent on drinking rather than on utilities, credit card bills, the mortgage, food, car or truck payments, the rent, and so on, critical issues in a relationship are more likely than not right around the corner.

Hazardous and Abusive Drinking Typically Reveals Itself at the Workplace

Fourth, abusive drinking generally manifests itself at a person’s place of employment. To the extent that this occurs, one’s ability to make a living is seriously placed in a risky situation and this, in turn, adversely has an effect on an individual’s relationships.

Heavy Drinking Regularly Results in Difficulties With the Law

Finally, abusive and careless drinking generally leads to issues with the law. Certainly one or more DWIs, as an example, cannot do anything but hurt a relationship from a financial and from an emotional perspective.

You Need Inspiration and Motivation to Get Alcohol Treatment So You Can Stop Your Heavy and Abusive Drinking And Find More Self Esteem and Happiness

So what is the message to be taken away from this discussion? First, if you want to have solid, loving relationships in your life, refrain from hazardous and irresponsible drinking. Second, if you are a drinker and you are in a relationship, if you want to keep this relationship or maybe make it stronger, then make sure you always drink in moderation or not at all. And third, if you have alcohol problems that are adversely affecting your relationship, please seek more alcohol information and consider getting alcohol rehab.

Conclusion

To bring this discussion to a close, it can be determined that irresponsible and abusive drinking adversely has an effect on a person’s relationships because it lowers an individual’s inhibitions and results in inappropriate and mean arguments and/or aggression.

It can also be concluded that unhealthy and abusive drinking negatively affects an individual’s reasoning, problem solving, and decision-making skills and abilities, thus leading to dysfunctional choices and actions.

In a related way, irresponsible drinking usually negatively affects the drinker’s finances, thus affecting the money management skills of the people who are involved in the relationship. What is more, excessive and abusive drinking typically disrupts a relationship because of alcohol-related work complications.

And finally, irresponsible and careless drinking usually results in alcohol related issues with the law such as DUIs, jail time, and fines and penalties. Obviously, these legal predicaments negatively affect most dear relationships.

From a positive way of looking at things, although he drank hazardously and abusively when he was a teenager and a young adult, when he got beyond the age of twenty-five he almost always drank in moderation.

After he finished his education he eventually got a job at a local truck assembly plant where he worked his way up from stock person, to office assistant, to purchasing assistant, to purchasing manager. Unlike his other positions, as the purchasing manager he frequently took existing vendors and potential vendors to lunch and to a variety of sporting events.

Though it was not written in stone, meeting with potential vendors and existing vendors time after time involved circumstances in which alcohol was present. Indeed, over the past sixteen months, Stanley had started to appreciably increase his work related and his social drinking. This has led to quite a quandary. More specifically, the more successful he became as a purchasing agent, the more heavily he began to drink.

His Increasing Feelings of Depression Also Made Him Question if He Was Becoming an Alcoholic

In fact, it didn’t take long at all before Stanley’s hazardous and irresponsible drinking started to negatively affect his health, his mental health, his work efficiency, the money in his savings account, and his relationships. After many weeks of excessive drinking, Stanley, if truth be told, started to be concerned about his abusive and unhealthy drinking and questioned whether his alcohol related problems were alcoholism signs. Moreover, his increasing bouts of depression also made him wonder if he was becoming an alcohol dependent person. In a word, Stanley clearly needed to learn more about the facts about alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction.

Stanley Needs Alcohol Detoxification and Alcohol Treatment For His Alcohol Dependency and a Medical Evaluation Regarding His Depression

So Stanley used his common sense, called his doctor, and made an appointment for a physical examination. A week later after seeing his healthcare practitioner, Stanley unfortunately was told that he was dependent on alcohol. His doctor told Stanley that he needed to get alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehabilitation for his alcoholism and that he also needed to get a medical evaluation regarding his depression. In a word, Stanley needed treatment for his alcoholism and depression.

The Positive News is That After His Treatment For Depression and For Alcoholism, He Felt Like a New Individual

His family doctor suggested to Stanley that he take a 30-day leave of absence from work and get enrolled in a quality in-patient alcohol rehab clinic where his depression could also be treated. This is specifically what Stanley did. The good news is that after his treatment for depression and for alcohol addiction, he felt like a new person. Indeed, now that he was in recovery he hardly ever got depressed and he now understood how to more successfully and productively manage his relationships, his job, his finances, and his health.

Not surprisingly, the most challenging “test” Stanley ran into was at the office. More precisely, he still took potential vendors and his existing vendors to lunch and to various sporting events, but after his alcohol rehab he managed to stay away from drinking while entertaining his clients.

It can be stressed that Stanley also learned that none of his potential vendors or his existing vendors thought any less of him because of his abstinence. Instead, he learned that his potential vendors and existing vendors respected him for staying strong to his convictions.

Stanley’s Better Health, Finances, Work Performance, and the Better Relationships He Experienced More Than counterbalanced His Love of Drinking

After Stanley went through alcohol rehab, however, he discovered that he was an individual who for whatever reason, could not drink in moderation or drink responsibly. In fact he found out the hard way that if he stayed away from drinking, all of the other meaningful parts of his life would be upgraded. At times, Stanley missed drinking, but the better work performance, health, finances, and the better relationships he experienced more than compensated for his love of drinking.

Regrettably, after engaging in this “party” lifestyle for about two-and-a-half years, he started to display numerous alcohol related issues.

Barry Begins to Experience Various Alcohol Related Issues

For instance, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so little energy when he got up. Moreover, just about every morning Barry had a nasty hangover. In a word, the combination of his lack of energy and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel energized to go to work. To make things worse, around a week ago he received his second driving under the influence citation in the past two years.

To complicate things further, at his place of employment his last two work assessments were less than suitable. And finally, his six-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had declined due to his angry outbursts, lack of patience, financial difficulties, and his depression.

Though Barry was only twenty-three years old, he frankly began to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what irresponsible and excessive drinking can do to a person. And from a realistic perspective he grasped the fact that he was experiencing the adverse consequences of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction and that he was too young to throw away his life to abusive and hazardous drinking. So initially he tried to drink in moderation. Regrettably, he soon comprehended the fact that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. Stated more precisely, after his first drink he invariably proceeded to get intoxicated. Due to the fact that this was an event that was repeated every time he went to a bar to drink, this disturbed him greatly. In fact, he started to wonder if he was displaying some of the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.

Barry Makes up His Mind To Schedule an Appointment to See His Physician

After talking about his excessive alcohol consumption and his careless and irresponsible drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually made up his mind to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Barry saw his healthcare practitioner, he sincerely mentioned that he has been drinking in an excessive manner, that he may be manifesting alcoholic signs, and that he wants to stop drinking. He then said that drinking responsibly and in moderation doesn’t work well for him and, as a result, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.

Barry also told his healthcare practitioner about his depression and how this mental health problem was negatively influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His doctor referred Barry to Doctor Clark, an alcohol and drug addiction specialist, who persuaded Barry to enter into an alcohol and drug rehab clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Barry would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.

Abstaining From Drinking Was the Best Decision Barry Had Ever Made

After five months of intensive rehab, Barry left the residential rehab facility and continued his recovery via outpatient therapy and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Motivated to change his life in a healthier manner, Barry went to a health store and bought some vitamins and a cookbook. He then joined a fitness center and began working out three or four times per week. Within five months Barry was a new man. He wasn’t depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he now looked younger than he was, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also didn’t resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more loving individual in his relationship with his lady friend. In brief, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Barry had ever made.

Even though he had only been on the police force for four years, he was already known as a hard worker who hardly ever said no to working overtime. In point of fact, he was now working ten to fifteen hours of overtime each week and, consequently, he felt like he was losing his grip on his personal life. What made the circumstances more complicated, nevertheless, was the fact that Gary began going out drinking with a group of fellow officers after work.

What Began as Fun Soon Turned Into Irresponsible and Hazardous Drinking

What began as a good time very soon turned into irresponsible and abusive drinking and then into a negative cycle of feeling tired each morning when he awakened for work, working more long hours, and then going drinking with his friends after work.

Clearly Gary was in a emotional and health related rut and going through some adverse alcohol effects on the body. Where Gary really noticed drinking related problems and alcohol short term effects, however, was in his marriage and in his family life. His wife wasn’t really a complainer, but she typically encouraged him to stay at home more with the family instead of going out and blowing all of his money while drinking with his pals.

Gary’s Irresponsible and Abusive Drinking Adversely Affects His Personality

In a similar way, Gary’s excessive and careless drinking also negatively affected his personality. Stated briefly, the more he drank, the less patience he had with any problems or issues that came up regarding his children or his wife.

It Was Obvious to Gary That His Excessive and Irresponsible Drinking Was Negatively Affecting His Pocketbook, Health, Work, and His Relationship With His Family

In his heart of hearts, it was apparent to Gary that his unhealthy and abusive drinking was adversely affecting his relationship with his family, work, pocketbook, and his health. So one Monday morning Gary came to a decision to talk to Jerry, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.

Gary told Jerry how excessive and unhealthy drinking was adversely affecting his pocketbook, health, work, and his relationship with his family. Jerry told Gary that he completely understood because approximately seven years ago, he too involved himself with hazardous and irresponsible drinking. In fact, Jerry told Gary that careless and abusive drinking can cause so many difficulties in an individual’s life that just about everything of significance can be ruined. And finally, Jerry recommended that Gary schedule an appointment with an alcohol abuse specialist at the work-affiliated drug and alcohol abuse rehab center.

Since his employee’s assistance program was affiliated with this rehab center, it was not only quite affordable but also very convenient to get some quality counseling about his abusive and hazardous drinking. And due to the fact that the personnel at the drug and alcohol treatment center was non-judgmental, competent, and supportive, Gary would be able to get alcohol treatment that made sense to him and something he could follow through on.

After talking to his therapist about how his drinking was negatively affecting his relationship with his family, work, pocketbook, and his health, Gary realized that he was burning the candle at both ends with his excessive work hours and his abusive and irresponsible drinking. Once he understood that he was getting himself into a rut, with the assistance his counselor, and after eleven weeks in treatment, he was eventually able to stop drinking and quit working overtime.

Due to His Alcohol Rehabilitation Gary Felt More Self Esteem and Had Much More Energy

The result was that Gary perceived life in a different way now that he was in alcohol recovery. Simply put, due to his alcohol rehab he not only was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children, but he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, he had more quality time to spend with his family, and he felt better and more healthy. As luck would have it, now that he stopped drinking, Gary and his wife were not only starting to save some money for a new house but he also felt more self esteem than anytime since he and his wife got married.

Visit the original article at http://raiseselfesteem.com/blog/402/a-young-person-develops-her-self-esteem-when-she-talks-to-her-drinking-buddies-to-learn-more-information-about-alcoholism-and-alcohol-abuse/.

Diane drank on a usual basis with her drinking pals. One Wednesday after all of her classes were finished, she started reflecting on the amount of alcohol she ingested on a regular basis and the hazardous and careless drinking of her drinking friends. As a result of this, she nicely asked all of her drinking buddies the following question: “what do we really know about alcohol abuse, binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, and alcoholism? In other words, how much alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse information do we really know? For our young age, we obviously drink in an abusive and hazardous manner and I am starting to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-associated problems down the road.

I believe that we need to go on the Internet and find out all that we can about alcoholism, alcohol abuse, alcohol poisoning, and binge drinking. And then if we have any relevant issues that we really don’t comprehend after we conclude our web research, we can schedule an appointment at the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Webster to help us understand what we can’t comprehend.”

It Shouldn’t Come as a Great Surprise That What Diane Said Would Cause a Heated Discussion

It shouldn’t come as a great surprise that what Diane said would lead to a heated discussion. For example, her best friend since junior high school, Helena, said that they are too young and too healthy to be worried about excessive drinking. Another classmate named Curtis stated that since most high school students drink there’s no rational reason why they should be any different. Another drinking buddy named Lilly said that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her friends. And still another drinking friend named Jaxson in fact agreed with Diane mainly because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related problems.

Diane revealed to her classmates that she comprehended everything that they had articulated but that getting involved in hazardous and careless drinking at such an early age in truth can’t be very healthy or something that contributes toward establishing a meaningful life. When some of her drinking buddies asked what kind of alcohol difficulties Diane was discussing, Diane listed the following: alcohol-related diseases such as heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer and other alcohol-related problems like alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances), and alcoholism.

Irresponsible Drinking Frequently Results in Alcohol-Related Problems

When Diane then stated that unhealthy and excessive drinking regularly results in school, legal, relationship, and financial problems, some of her friends finally started to comprehend how comprehensive and how debilitating careless drinking can be. To be sure some of her buddies opened up and started to tell how these alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse effects had affected their parents and some of their friends.

After discussing some of the alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse problems that are related to hazardous and abusive drinking, most of her friends liked the idea about getting information online. They were, on the other hand, cautious about discussing their drinking circumstances with staff at school. As Diane reflected on this she whispered to herself, “at least they are open to finding out more about their abusive and unhealthy drinking. This is a very fine start.”

She never went to any of the happy hours following work and it was recognized throughout the office that she was a deeply religious individual who frequently talked about the pitfalls of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency in our country.

Try to think of the shock inside the company when one Monday morning Shelly did not show up for work and nobody had heard from her. In truth, it wasn’t until close to 10:45 in the morning that the human resources department received a phone call about Shelly from the downtown jail.

Shelly Goes Out Partying Along With a Few of Her University Dorm Mates

Evidently, Shelly went out drinking with a number of her university dorm mates Saturday night and sometime close to 3:45 Sunday morning, Shelly was arrested for a DUI. Because her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was exceptionally high, she had to spend a day-in-a-half inside the downtown jail.

Shelly Talks to Her Manager and The Human Resources Director

When Shelly came to work on Tuesday morning, she right away told her superior what had taken place and she asked if she could possibly go and talk to the Human Resources manager about her “drunk driving” arrest.

When she got to the Human Resources department and met with the manager, she described that she had not been intoxicated since her university days and that she was really embarrassed about her “driving while intoxicated” arrest. She also articulated the point that she needed some help finding a highly trained and productive DUI lawyer who would represent her “drunk driving” case. Stated more precisely, Shelly really wanted the Human Resources director to agree that she needed to see a DUI attorney.

The Human Resources manager told Shelly that she ought to schedule an appointment with someone within the company employee’s assistance program to discuss any probable drinking problem that she might have. The HR manager also mentioned that she needs to go over her need to hire a “driving under the influence” attorney to represent her concerning her “driving while intoxicated” case.

Furthermore, the Human Resources director told Shelly that it was constructive that she really wanted to hire a DWI attorney because of the difficulties and serious outcomes that happen to be affiliated with a DWI conviction.

The Human Resources manager could tell that Shelly was plainly displeased and humiliated by this entire scenario. For this reason he told Shelly that while he doesn’t feel that responsible individuals really should ever get behind the steering wheel right after drinking, sadly these conditions sometimes come to pass to very good individuals.

The Human Resources manager then mentioned that since such a state of affairs can’t be undone, what’s crucial is what the particular person does from this moment forward. As articulated by the Human Resources director, “does the man or women learn from his or her blunders or does the individual develop a pattern of alcohol related problems that cause the particular person long-term suffering and pain”?

Fortunately, Shelly Did Not Have a History of Hazardous and Excessive Drinking

Just before finishing their discussion, the Human Resources director shared with Shelly that it was quite positive that she doesn’t have a track record of hazardous and careless drinking drinking. Not only this but she hasn’t had an alcohol-related situation since her college days (which was roughly 18 years ago). As a result, Shelly should be able to face her DWI arrest with remorse but also with confidence that she will face and sort out this predicament and turn out to be a better individual in the not too distant future.

Shelly thanked the Human Resources manager for his caring and encouraging words and then walked over to the company employee’s assistance program go over her “driving while intoxicated” arrest, her participation in careless and irresponsible drinking over the weekend, and her aspiration to retain a DUI attorney to represent her DWI case.

After listening to Shelly’s “story,” the counselor that was part of the company employee’s assistance program went over Shelly’s immediate “action plan” that she needed to address and follow. First, she would be required to take a DUI class to learn more DUI facts and information. Second, she would also be required to take an alcohol abuse class to address her possible problem drinking. And finally, it would be a particularily sensible thing to do if she were to consult with a DUI lawyer about her “driving under the influence” arrest.

Shelly Feels Comfort Knowing That She Will Learn From Her Mistake and Turn Out To Be More Responsible

It was very clear that Shelly was very disappointed with the whole DUI scenario, but after talking to the Human Resources director and to the nurse inside the company employee’s assistance program, she felt encouraged that she would in reality learn from her blunder and become even more healthy and balanced, much more dependable, and an even more thankful woman.

For the past four-and-a-half years he has gained a reputation as a diligent and hard-working person who only once in a blue moon calls off work because of sickness.

About three months ago he started dating a woman named Emma. They appeared to get along real well right away and gave people the impression that they had a lot of fun with one another.

The Excessive Drinking Begins

When Russ met Emma, he rarely drank. This situation totally changed when Russ and Emma began dating on a fairly normal basis. In actual fact, their relationship was going great until Emma called Russ one night about 2:30 AM and said that she had to stop dating him and that she couldn’t tell him the reasons for her decision at that moment.

The next morning before he went to work, Russ went to Emma’s apartment and found out almost immediately that she had already moved out. Russ took this exceedingly hard. In actual fact, he was surprised because they appeared to be getting along so very well.

When Excessive and Heavy Drinking Leads to Problems at Work

So what did Russ do about Emma’s departure? Instead of working through his pain and sorrow, he began getting intoxicated almost every night. It didn’t take long for his coworkers or for his boss to notice that Russ was coming to work late at least three times per week and that he over and over again called off ill. Furthermore, some of his co-workers made an appointment with staff in Human Resources Department and mentioned that Russ frequently came to work with a noticeable smell of alcohol on his clothes or on his breath.

Russ’s manager heard about all of this from Human Resources and also from Russ’s co-workers. So one Thursday afternoon he invited Russ into his office. He told Russ that he had recently noticed a definite change in his attendance, work performance, sick time, and in his behavior.

When a Supervison Can Encourage an Employee to Get Help For His or Her Excessive and Abusive Drinking

Russ’s supervisor also mentioned that a number of his fellow employees reported him to Human Resources because he had been coming to work with the strong odor of alcohol. His manager then stated the following: “Russ, your co-workers are not reporting you to Human Resources to get you into any trouble or because they don’t like you but rather because they care about you. And I am concerned too. I don’t want to pry into your life outside of work, but it is apparent that you are displaying some of the basic symptoms and signs of alcohol abuse. Consequently, I want you to go and see a psychologist in the employee’s assistance program to discuss your drinking behavior and your depression.”

“Russ, I’m no physician or a psychiatrist, but I have seen more than a few of my relatives and friends suffer through some very bad alcohol side effects. Furthermore, I have also experienced the signs of alcoholism first-hand in my own family. When individuals suffer from problems with drinking, these difficulties not only affect the drinker, but they also make an impact on his or her neighbors, co-workers, relatives, family, and friends.”

Russ respected his supervisor very much and as a consequence followed through with his suggestion the very next day when he called and scheduled an appointment with a therapist in the employee’s assistance program.

Russ is Still Depressed But Experiences Some Hope That He Will Get His Life Back on Track

Although Russ didn’t necessarily feel any better or less depressed about the hurt he still has about Emma, he felt comfort knowing that his boss and his co-workers wanted what’s best for him and cared about him. This gave him some psychological relief for the first time in quite a few weeks and he honestly felt some hope that he would get back on track with his life.

Copyright © 2012 avalon09. Visit the original article at http://raiseselfesteem.com/blog/179/a-young-female-requires-treatment-for-her-mental-illness-and-for-her-alcohol-and-drug-addiction/.

Roughly a month ago I met a twenty-seven-year-old woman named Rachael who is bipolar and who is also dependent on alcohol and drugs. I have read that under such circumstances, an individual needs to get treatment for both medical problems and that mental health problems and chemical dependency frequently take place in the same individual. Moreover, I recall reading that a history of careless drinking, drug addiction, and/or mental health issues many times happen in the same family.

Plainly, Rachael is so defeated by both of her medical problems that she in actual fact has little or no ambition to complete much of anything. What is particularly sad about this is that earlier in her life, Rachael managed to finish one-and-a-half years of college. Rachael’s condition makes me wonder if she is an example of a person who has to hit the bottom of the barrel before he or she gets alcohol and drug dependency rehab that leads to lasting sobriety.

The Need For a Psychologist She Trusts and a Rehabilitation Program She Can Believe In

If I were in contact with Rachael I could suggest more than a few websites that could possibly help her find info about addiction and alcoholic behavior, relevant substance abuse information, facts about alcoholism and drugs, and info about addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. From where I stand, nevertheless, Rachael needs to find a doctor she trusts and a rehab protocol she can believe in and follow through over the long term. I could be in the wrong but it seems to make sense that Rachael probably needs to admit the fact that she cannot drink responsibly or use drugs if she wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the path to long-term recovery.

I am mindful that there are some newly developed physician-prescribed meds that can help Rachael through her withdrawal symptoms, through the alcohol and alcohol detox process, and help her avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse. Obviously it would be in Rachael’s best interests if she became conversant with these medications.

I would think that Rachael needs to concede the fact that there is absolutely nothing healthy about careless drinking and substance abuse and that involving herself in one or both circumstances is the path to poor work and school performance, legal problems, shattered relationships, deteriorating health, financial difficulties, and a premature death.

The Significance of Support Groups Like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are probably a lot of persons such as other individuals, family members, and friends who would want to help Rachael but she probably would experience greater tolerance from a recovery group such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous rather than listening to individuals who drink responsibly or who have never taken drugs.

When People Accomplish Things They Love and About Which They Are Fervent

There’s a school of thought that declares that individuals who do things they like and something about which they are passionate reach a breathtaking place in life. In other words, when people do what they enjoy, they almost never experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is satisfying, furthermore, they become more fulfilled and experience more pleasure and delight in life.

To me, this sounds like the exact opposite of a life that is centered in alcohol and drug addiction because such a lifestyle removes the contentment and delight that life offers.

Due to the fact that Rachael lacks the fortitude to do much of anything in her life, it is evident that she desperately needs some hope for a better existence. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is almost everywhere around Rachael if she could only get to the point in life to get the therapy she needs for her mental illness and drug dependence and alcohol addiction and adhere to her treatment protocol.

Beneficial Change, Self Esteem, and a Wonderful Life Are Possibilities

Rachael is simply too young to be overwhelmed in life. She doesn’t realize this at the moment but if she can learn how to stay away from drugs and alcohol via drug and alcohol rehab and get the treatment she requires for her bipolar condition, she can reorient her life and start living with passion, self-respect, and direction.

Beneficial change, self respect, and a meaningful life are certainly possibilities for Rachael if only she could become inspired to seek the professional rehabilitation she requires, follow through with her treatment protocol, live her life in an addiction-free and healthy way, and foster a more positive attitude about her life.

As a matter of fact, due to his lethargy and lack of drive, he was without a job far more frequently than he was in a state of employment. And when he did find a job, he had an unusually difficult time getting to work in a timely manner, he usually got less than optimal performance appraisals, and he called off sick so regularly that he commonly got fired a week or two after he began working. It almost goes without saying that one of the outcomes of Jesse’s less than acceptable work history was the fact that he was almost totally broke on a day-to-day basis.

Regardless of Jesse’s awful employment history and financial misconduct, however, somehow he managed to drink in a hazardous and excessive manner on an everyday basis.

So it came as no big shock when Jesse got a second DWI. When he went before the court, the magistrate told Jesse that his alcohol-related actions was terrible and, as a consequence, he was going to sentence Jesse to serve seven months behind bars.

Time In The County Jail To Reflect On The Disruptive Outcomes of Hazardous and Abusive Drinking

During his time in jail, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the harmful results of hazardous and excessive drinking, and he was required to get alcohol treatment. The judge stressed the fact that unless Jesse receives professional alcohol therapy and discovers how to live an alcohol-free life, he will most likely be spending a considerable amount of time in the municipal jail.

Jesse articulated that he understood what the magistrate was proclaiming but he still claimed that placement in the municipal jail was not the proper ruling. The magistrate thought otherwise and asserted that it was his job to keep alcohol abusers off the streets who drive and drink and who get arrested for a DWI. To authenticate this assertion, the judge quoted some revered, extensively researched alcohol statistics that underlined some of the damaging effects that are related to hazardous drinking.

Even though Jesse understood that he drank in a hazardous and excessive manner, he never believed that he was a person who was dependent on alcohol. So it was a real shocker when Jesse began suffering from alcohol withdrawals roughly six-and-a-half hours after getting locked up in jail.

To monitor his alcohol withdrawals in a harm free manner, Jesse was taken to a drug and alcohol rehab facility for alcohol detox and then brought back to the city jail. While locked up in the municipal jail Jesse received alcohol treatment but since he received this therapy as something that was forced upon him, he neglected to take ownership of his abusive drinking.

When his time behind bars was over, the magistrate without wavering told Jesse that he would be under careful surveillance and would be required to take random breath alcohol tests.

Jessie’s Excessive and Abusive Drinking Prevents Him From Living in an Adult and Mature Manner

After hearing how Jesse was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking problem and how he unwillingly followed the treatment code of behavior while in jail, the magistrate knew that it was just a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about his irresponsible drinking behavior. As the magistrate thought about Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some individuals never use their brain and learn how to live in a responsible and accountable manner.

An Old Relationship Strengthens Jesse’s Self Esteem and Inspires and Motivates Him to Thoroughly Change His Life

But something happened in Jesse’s life that completely changed his unsafe lifestyle. One day when he was at the local grocery store buying chewing tobacco, he met Alice, a girl he hadn’t seen since the sixth grade. After some small talk, Alice frankly told Jesse that due to her alcohol and drug addiction she was lucky to be alive.

When Jesse asked her what happened to change her life, she told Jesse that when her cousin Marilyn died from a drug overdose, this forced her to see the destructive and harmful life she had been living.

She underlined the point that the first thing she did after her cousin’s funeral was to begin going back to the church she attended when she was in elementary school. That was seven years ago and with the help, support, and guidance of her reverend and other people who went to her church, she started going to Alcoholics Anonymous and she also got alcohol and drug counseling at the local drug and alcohol treatment hospital. Alice told Jesse that in spite of a couple of rough moments, she is finally on the path to long term recovery and feeling a sense of happiness and delight for the first time since she was a young adult. When Jesse accepted Alice’s invitation to attend her parish she was pleasantly surprised. After going to roughly four or five church services, for the first time since he dropped out of high school, Jesse felt an augmented sense of self esteem and began thinking that perhaps there was hope for him and that he could finally address his alcohol and drug problems and start living a more productive and rewarding life.

She was fed up from seeing Barry come home late at night from drinking instead of spending time with her and their three sons. She was also drained from the DUI Barry recently received. Moreover she was fed up from generating justifications for her spouse when he couldn’t make it to work on time due to his problems with drinking. Not only this but she was apprehensive and depressed about the fact that their relationship was going downhill due to Barry’s excessive and careless drinking. And finally she was sick and tired of the risky financial situation into which he had put his family because of his hazardous and careless drinking behavior. In sum, Emily felt that her mental health was deteriorating because of her husband’s drinking problems.

When Careless and Excessive Drinking Motivates a Person to do Something Affirmative About a Person’s Drinking Problem

One Sunday afternoon when Emily was reflecting on what she could do about her husband’s hazardous and abusive drinking, she got to the point that she frankly had to do something constructive to cut into the unhealthy cycle of Barry’s hazardous and abusive drinking behavior.

So she looked in the yellow pages under “alcohol rehab” and located a number of rehab facilities that were all located less than thirty miles away from where she and Barry resided.

Since she didn’t know too much about these rehab clinics, she finally determined that she needed to call some of them and ask a couple of questions. When she called each treatment center she introduced herself and said that Barry, her husband, was manifesting unhealthy and abusive drinking behavior. She also stated that her spouse had a top-rate health insurance program at his job and that outpatient or residential alcohol dependency rehabilitation would be covered if a doctor in the company health program called for the rehabilitation.

At one treatment clinic, Emily was stunned that she was able to converse directly with a healthcare practitioner who suggested that she come to the treatment facility to go over her husband’s hazardous and excessive drinking behavior in more detail.

Emily Talks to a Healthcare Practitioner About Her Husband’s Hazardous and Abusive Drinking

When Emily arrived at the rehabilitation clinic, she filled out some required forms and then after around five or ten minutes got to see a healthcare practitioner.

After listening to Emily describe her husband’s abusive and excessive drinking, the healthcare professional in a compassionate but resolute manner told Emily how she may have played a part in her spouse’s abusive and careless drinking through the years by minimizing his drinking behavior instead of letting him go through the results of his abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior.

Emily Learns That She Has Been Enabling Her Husband’s Abusive and Irresponsible Drinking

Stated in a slightly different way, the therapist stated to Emily that she may have been accidentally enabling Barry’s hazardous and careless drinking behavior. The physician also emphasized the fact that even though Emily could not control her spouse’s conduct, with the support and encouragement of the treatment team at the healthcare clinic she would not only be able to learn how to stop contributing to Barry’s excessive and hazardous drinking but she would also be able to learn how to encourage him to make an appointment at the rehab facility so that he could discuss his abusive and excessive drinking behavior with a physician.

Fortunately after Emily discussed this with Barry, and he saw that she was serious, Barry told her that he had been quite upset with his careless and abusive drinking behavior and that he was quite pleased to hear that Emily wanted to do something constructive about his unhealthy and abusive drinking behavior. As a result, he made an appointment to see a therapist at the local alcohol treatment center. It almost goes without saying that this boosted Emily’s self esteem.

Barry Agrees to See a Counselor About His Excessive and Abusive Drinking

While simply calling a rehabilitation center does not mean that a person’s unhealthy and abusive drinking behavior will end or that one’s warning signs of alcoholism or the alcohol abuse signs one manifests will simply fade away, calling for an appointment is plainly a required component in the treatment process. And due to the fact that Barry was serious about getting professional assistance for his abusive drinking, the probability for a successful recovery was substantially increased.

Copyright © 2012 avalon09. Visit the original article at http://raiseselfesteem.com/blog/129/is-your-drinking-becoming-problematic-and-when-you-need-to-enhance-your-self-esteem-by-receiving-alcohol-rehabilitation/.

How do you know that you have a drinking problem? When is it evident that you are engaging in alcohol abuse?

If you have hopelessly attempted to quit drinking or if you sworn to yourself that your drinking days are finished and then you recognized that you were drinking irresponsibly just a few days later, the probability is exceptionally good that you have drinking problems. The fundamental idea is that if you have tried to terminate your drinking and cannot bring this about, then your drinking is controlling you, instead of the other way around.

Likewise, if it takes larger amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” you probably need to recognize the fact that you have a problem with your drinking.

You may be telling yourself that the rationale for your drinking is so that you can lessen your tension or get rid of the pain or depression that you feel. Similarly, you may be trying to stay away from a negative circumstance and may be looking for something more beneficial, more positive, or less sorrowful.

As you maintain your drinking, nevertheless, you will grasp the fact that drinking does not bring forth the same high and you will also grasp the fact that drinking doesn’t help eliminate whatever elicited your distress in the first place. You may also notice that the more abusively you drink, the more depressed you feel.

As you continue to drink in an excessive manner, unfortunately, you may become addicted to alcohol and, as a consequence, you may add another major predicament to deal with rather than learning about more productive and healthy ways of coping with your alcohol-related problems.

The Necessity for an Alcohol Evaluation

If you have determined that you have a problem with your drinking, perhaps the most beneficial thing you can do for yourself is to call your doctor or healthcare provider and arrange for an appointment for a thorough physical and for an appraisal of your drinking activities.

If you sincerely feel that you have a critical drinking problem, it might be a good idea to get prepared to find out that you need to get alcohol therapy.

At this point in your life, what are your options? You can positively refuse to see your health care professional and carry on with your pattern of abusive drinking.

It certainly doesn’t take a genius, then again, to realize that continuous, hazardous drinking, if left untreated, will go downhill over time and more likely than not result an early death. For that reason, your best alternative is to face up to your drinking circumstance and get the alcohol treatment you require.

The Facade of the Functioning Alcohol Dependent Individual

It is somewhat peculiar to note the fact that numerous alcohol addicted individuals lead busy and active lives and have houses, pets, families, vehicles, jobs, and any number of material possessions similar to people who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcohol dependent people may have never been cited for drunk driving and may have been fortunate enough to avoid all alcohol generated legal predicaments. In spite of this fortunate circumstance, to the contrary, these alcoholics need to drink in order to deal with life on a day to day basis while keeping up their facade as they associate with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are out on a drunken binge or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol dependency, nevertheless, and they will be quick to maintain the validity of the drinker’s situation and the essentials about the alcohol dependent person’s drinking condition and about his or her alcohol generated predicaments.

Why Do Alcohol Dependent Individuals Fail to Acknowledge Their Drinking Difficulties?

As alcohol dependency research and statistics on alcohol abuse have underlined, no matter how observable the alcohol generated predicaments seem to those who interact with the alcohol dependent person, alcohol dependent individuals commonly deny that drinking is the source of their alcohol generated problems. Not only this, but alcohol dependent individuals characteristically blame their alcohol-related problems on other people or upon other circumstances that surround them rather than seeing their part in the difficulty.

The origin of the difficulty is that alcoholism is a disease of the brain. Once the drinker has become addicted to alcohol, he or she regularly resorts to denial, manipulation, and deceit as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make matters more complex, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms frequently counteracts the alcohol addicted person’s rare attempts to suddenly refrain from drinking. As cheerless as the alcoholic’s existence is, however, the good news is that professional assistance is commonly accessible – if the alcohol dependent individual reaches out and gets alcohol treatment.

Summary

Acknowledging the fact that drinking is leading to problems in your day by day functioning is perchance the most trouble-free way to find out if you have a drinking problem. More to the point, if your drinking is producing problems with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the law, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be tackled.

If you have a problem with your drinking, additionally, this means that you are engaging in excessive drinking.

While some drinkers may be able to detect their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their problems, and significantly decrease the amount and incidence of their drinking, others, conversely, need to deal with their drinking problems by getting professional alcoholism treatment. What’s more, due to their propensity to deny the facts and bend the truth, alcohol addicted individuals definitely need quality alcohol therapy for their out-of-control drinking.

And lastly, if you feel more depressed the more you drink, it is likely that you will need to get develop a positive attitude so you can receive treatment for your drinking problem and for your depression. Fortunately, by doing this you will not only address your drinking and depression problems but you will probably increase your self-esteem as well.

Indeed, due to his lassitude and lack of drive, he was out of a job far more frequently than he was in work. And when he did get a job, he had a very hard time getting to work when his shift began, he often got less than optimal performance assessments, and he called off sick so many times that he commonly got fired two or three weeks after he began working. To no one’s surprise, one of the effects of Jesse’s less than stellar employment record was the fact that he was just about flat broke almost on an everyday basis.

Regardless of Jesse’s poor employment record and financial misconduct, then again, one way or another he managed to drink in a hazardous manner almost everyday.

So it came as no big surprise when Jesse got a fourth DWI. When he went before the court, the magistrate clearly stated to Jesse that his alcohol-related actions was appalling and, as a result, he was going to sentence Jesse to spend twelve months incarcerated in jail.

Time In Jail To Think About The Demoralizing Outcomes of Abusive and Excessive Drinking

During his time in jail, Jesse was required to learn more about alcohol facts, about the injurious consequences of excessive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol treatment. The magistrate accentuated the fact that unless Jesse gets professional alcohol therapy and discovers how to live a life of sobriety, he will most likely be spending a lot more time in the local jail.

Jesse stated that he grasped what the magistrate was pronouncing but he still stated that jail was not the best judgment. The judge saw things from an entirely different orientation and claimed that it was his responsibility to keep individuals off the streets who drive and drink and who receive multiple DWIs. To substantiate this statement, the magistrate listed some revered, comprehensively researched alcohol statistics that underscored some of the devastating outcomes that are related to excessive and abusive drinking.

Even though Jesse knew that he drank excessively, he never felt that he was an individual who was addicted to alcohol. So it was a real bombshell when Jesse began having alcohol withdrawal symptoms roughly three-and-a-half hours after getting locked up in the municipal jail.

To deal with his alcohol withdrawal symptoms in a safe manner, Jesse was transferred to a drug and alcohol treatment center for alcohol detox and then brought back to the local jail. While locked up in the local jail Jesse got alcohol rehab but since he received this counseling as something that was forced upon him, he neglected to take ownership of his irresponsible drinking.

When his time in the city jail was over, the magistrate without indecision announced to Jesse that he would be under strict scrutiny and would be required to take periodic random breath alcohol tests.

Jessie’s Irresponsible and Excessive Drinking Prevents Him From Living in a Productive and Accountable Manner

After hearing how Jesse did not take ownership of his drinking circumstances and how he unenthusiastically followed the treatment regimen while in the county jail, the magistrate knew that it was only a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about his careless drinking behavior. As the judge reflected on Jesse’s situation, he couldn’t help but think about how some people never “connect the dots” and learn how to live in a responsible and productive manner.

An Old Relationship Augments Jesse’s Self Esteem and Motivates and Inspires Him to Significantly Alter His Life

But something happened in Jesse’s life that completely changed his unproductive lifestyle. One day when he was at the local beverage store buying chewing tobacco, he met Alice, a girl he hadn’t seen since the eighth grade. After some small talk, Alice openly told Jesse that due to her drug and alcohol abuse she was fortunate to be alive.

When Jesse asked her what happened that changed her life so totally, she told Jesse that when her cousin Claudia died from alcohol poisoning, this forced her to see the unhealthy and ruinous life she had been living.

She stressed the point that the first thing she did after her cousin’s funeral service was to begin going back to her family church. That was eight years ago and with the guidance, help, and support of her pastor and other people who attended her parish, she started going to Alcoholics Anonymous and she also got alcohol and drug counseling at the local drug and alcohol treatment center. Alice told Jesse that despite a handful of rough moments, she is finally on the road to long lasting sobriety and feeling a sense of delight and joy for the first time in her adult life. When Jesse said “yes” to Alice’s invitation to attend her church she was pleasantly surprised. After going to about three or four church services, for the first time in his adult life, Jesse felt a strengthened sense of self esteem and began thinking that perhaps there was hope for him and that he could finally address his drug and alcohol issues and begin living a more healthy and beneficial life.

Copyright © 2012 avalon09. Visit the original article at http://raiseselfesteem.com/blog/90/when-drinking-becomes-a-serious-problem-and-when-you-need-to-enhance-your-self-esteem-by-getting-alcohol-rehab/.

How do you know that you have a drinking problem? When is it apparent that you are involving yourself in abusive drinking?

If you have ineffectively attempted to quit drinking or if you have given your word to yourself that your drinking days are gone and then you recognized that you were drinking in an abusive way just a few days later, the probability is exceedingly good that you have drinking problems. The point of emphasis is that if you have made an effort to quit drinking and cannot bring this about, then your drinking is controlling you, rather than the other way around.

Likewise, if it takes larger amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” you probably need to become aware that you have a problem with your drinking.

You may be telling yourself that the reasoning for your drinking is so that you can reduce your anxiety or get rid of the agony or depression that you feel. In much the same way, you may be trying to stay away from an unsafe circumstance and may be looking for something better, more positive, or less sorrowful.

As you maintain your drinking, nonetheless, you will realize that drinking does not bring about the same high and you will also realize that drinking doesn’t help eradicate whatever produced your misery in the first place. You may also observe that the more frequently you drink, the more depressed you feel.

As you continue to drink in an abusive manner, sadly, you may become addicted to alcohol and, as a result, you may add another pivotal issue to manage rather than uncovering more productive and healthy ways of coping with your alcohol generated issues.

An Alcohol Appraisal is Probably Necessary

If you have decided that you have a drinking problem, conceivably the healthiest thing you can do for yourself is to call your physician or healthcare provider and arrange for an appointment for a physical and for a review of your drinking situation.

If you openly feel that you have a dangerous drinking problem, it may be a good idea to get prepared to hear that you need to get alcohol counseling.

At this point in your life, what are your options? You can certainly decide against seeing your family doctor and carry on with your pattern of hazardous drinking.

It definitely doesn’t take a genius, to the contrary, to comprehend that continuous, excessive drinking, if left untreated, will go downhill over time and in all probability result an early death. Accordingly, your most positive option is to face your drinking problem and get the alcohol therapy you need.

The Pretense of the Functioning Alcohol Addicted Individual

It is ironic to note the fact that multitudes of alcohol addicted people lead busy and active lives and have jobs, vehicles, pets, families, houses, and any number of material possessions just like people who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcohol addicted people may have never been apprehended for drunk driving and may have been lucky enough to avoid all alcohol generated legal issues. In spite of this fortunate situation, to the contrary, these alcohol dependent individuals need to drink in order to deal with life on a daily basis while preserving their facade as they interact with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are engaging in one of their drinking binges or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol dependency, nevertheless, and they will be quick to articulate the legitimacy of the drinker’s situation and the particulars about the alcohol addicted individual’s drinking condition and about his or her alcohol induced issues.

Why Do Alcohol Dependent People Fail to Focus On Their Drinking Difficulties?

As alcohol dependency research and statistics on alcohol abuse have highlighted, no matter how noticeable the alcohol generated issues seem to those who interact with the alcohol addicted person, alcohol dependent individuals regularly deny that drinking is the source of their alcohol-related difficulties. Not only this, but alcohol addicted people normally blame their alcohol induced difficulties on other people or upon other situations around them rather than seeing their part in the problem.

The source of the problem is that alcoholism is a disease of the brain. Once the problem drinker has become dependent on alcohol, he or she typically resorts to denial, manipulation, and lying as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make matters more difficult, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms commonly circumvents the alcohol dependent person’s rare attempts to suddenly abstain from drinking. As depressing as the alcohol addicted person’s way of life is, however, the encouraging news is that professional assistance is commonly accessible – if the alcohol addicted person reaches out and seeks alcoholism counseling.

Summary

Acknowledging the fact that drinking is triggering issues in your day to day functioning is probably the easiest way to find out if you have a problem with your drinking. In other words, if your drinking is leading to difficulties with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the law, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be addressed.

If you have a drinking problem, moreover, this means that you are getting involved with alcohol abuse.

While some individuals may be able to pinpoint their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their problems, and significantly decrease the quantity and rate of their drinking, other drinkers, conversely, need to deal with their drinking problems by getting quality alcohol rehabilitation. Moreover, due to their inclination to deny the facts and alter the truth, alcohol addicted individuals without a doubt need quality alcohol counseling for their abusive drinking.

And finally, if you feel more depressed the more you drink, you will probably need to get develop a positive attitude so you can receive therapy for your drinking problem and for your depression. Ironically, by doing this you will not only address your depression and drinking problems but you will probably enhance your self-esteem as well.
